Cold-Pressed Argan Oil Extraction: What Buyers Should Know

Cold pressing means kernels are mechanically squeezed without solvent and without using heat as an extraction aid. That is how cosmetic argan oil keeps vitamin E, a light gold color, and a mild nutty scent.

What cold pressed actually means

After fruit is dried and kernels are cracked, a press extracts oil mechanically. Cold-pressed cosmetic oil is not hexane-extracted and is not steam-deodorized into a bland refined oil. Filtration after pressing is normal; aggressive refining is not.

Heat used as an extraction shortcut can dull aroma and damage tocopherols. Faster industrial methods exist, but they are not what most clean-beauty specs call “cold pressed.”

Ask how the oil was pressed, not only whether the brochure says cold pressed.

What to request on a wholesale spec

A serious supplier can state: unroasted kernels (for cosmetic), mechanical press, no solvents, batch COA, and packing by lot number. If the oil is odorless and water-white, it has likely been refined beyond a typical Moroccan cosmetic grade.

Key points

Quality signals

No solvents

Oil should be mechanically pressed, not chemically extracted.

Mild aroma

A light nutty scent is normal. Perfume is not.

Pale gold

Unroasted cold-pressed oil is light, not dark roasted amber.

Lot COA

Peroxide value and appearance should match the drum you receive.

FAQ

Cold pressing — FAQs

Is filtered oil still cold pressed?

Yes. Filtering solids after pressing is standard. Refining, bleaching, and deodorizing are a different process.

Does cold pressed cost more?

Usually, because yield and labor are higher. Unrealistically cheap “cold pressed” oil is often diluted or refined.

Do you sell cold-pressed oil in bulk?

Yes. See our cold-pressed product page for packing from liters to IBC totes.
