Amazigh (Berber) women’s cooperatives in the Agadir and Essaouira region do the skilled work of cracking kernels. Buying through them — or an exporter who works with them directly — is the most reliable path to authentic oil.

Cracking argan nuts is slow, skilled work historically done by women in southwestern Morocco. Cooperatives organize that labor, keep more value in the community, and make origin easier to verify than a medina stall with no paperwork.
Agadir sits in the argan forest belt. Essaouira cooperatives are known for cosmetic-grade oil and visitor tours. Both regions can supply certified lots when they work with an inspected press and export desk.
A cooperative invoice plus a lot COA is stronger proof than a story told over a shop counter.
Most brands abroad do not import a few liters from a village tour. They buy through an exporter who purchases from cooperatives, tests the oil, packs drums or bottles, and issues documents. The important question is whether that exporter’s supply is direct — or blended from unknown traders.

Direct purchase supports local processing instead of a long trader chain.
Many cooperatives can feed USDA Organic or ECOCERT lots.
Cosmetic (unroasted) and culinary (roasted) can be produced as separate lots.
A visit is useful for learning. Export volumes still need packing, testing, and customs documents. Use a wholesale desk for drums and IBC totes.
